Gua sha facial

A smooth stone, drawn along your face and neck with oil, in light, slow strokes.

Gua sha is an old practice, and on the face it is gentle. Laleh uses a stone and a jade roller, works along the jaw, cheeks and forehead, and keeps asking about the pressure. Results vary, and she doesn't promise a change in your skin.

What happens

  • A cleanse, then a little oil so the stone glides

  • Light strokes along the jaw, cheeks and forehead

  • The roller over a clean face, to finish

  • Three lengths, with steam and a mask in the longest

A visit

How the stone is used

  1. 01

    Step 1: A clean face

Laleh cleanses with a warm cloth, then warms the stone in her hands.

  2. 02

    Step 2: A little oil

A few drops, so the stone glides and your skin isn't pulled.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Slow, light strokes

Along the jaw, cheeks and forehead, each one repeated a few times. Say if you want it lighter.

  4. 04

Step 4: The roller, then rest

The jade roller to finish, and a quiet minute before the tea.

About gua sha

Questions about gua sha

What is gua sha, and does it hurt?

Gua sha is a smooth stone drawn along the face and neck with oil. On the face the strokes are light and slow, and the pressure is yours to set. Tell Laleh if you'd like it lighter, and she will.

Will my skin look different afterward?

Some skin turns pink for a little while after a facial massage or gua sha, and some doesn't. Laleh tells you what to expect before she begins. Results vary, and she doesn't promise a change in your skin.

Can I have gua sha with a breakout?

Tell Laleh when you book. If your skin is sore or irritated she may suggest a gentler visit or another day, and she will tell you why.

Do I need my own stone?

No. Laleh uses her own, cleaned between clients. If you would like to learn how to use one at home, ask, and she'll show you.
